Lockheed Martin To Provide Electronic Support Measures Subsystem Upgrades For B-52H Stratofortress

OWEGO, NY, September 12th, 2000 -- Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego has been competitively selected by Boeing Military - Wichita Division to provide new Electronic Support Measures subsystems for the U.S. Air Force's B-52H Stratofortress. The new system upgrade, which will replace the current ALR-20A Radar Warning Receiver aboard the aircraft, will provide advanced threat detection and location, precision-targeting and jammer cueing for the B-52H aircrews. Under the B-52H Situational Awareness Defensive Improvement (SADI) Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) contract, valued at approximately $10 million, the company's Aerospace Systems business unit will design and deliver four prototype ESM subsystem upgrades over the next three years. The total B-52H SADI program potential value for Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego, including production, is more than $50 million over the next eight years.

Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego competed as one of two suppliers under a six-month Program Definition and Risk Reduction phase of the B-52H SADI contract to demonstrate an ESM subsystem upgrade.

The B-52H Stratofortress is a strategic bomber capable of supporting large-scale, global missions in a nuclear or a conventional role. The B-52H will continue to play an important role in these specialized missions beyond 2035.

Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego has been involved with the B-52 program since the inception of the site in 1958 when the U.S. Air Force tasked the company to design and build a bombing and navigational system for the B-52. In addition to current B-52H SADI EMD efforts, the company is improving the B-52H Mission Computer capability under a separate $4 million Avionics Midlife Improvement contract with Boeing.
