General Dynamics Wins $91 Million Navy Contract for Battlespace Management Program

GREENSBORO, NC. -- General Dynamics Advanced Technology Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been awarded a $91 million contract by the U.S. Navy to provide engineering and manufacturing development for the Area Air Defense Commander (AADC) Capability Program.

The AADC Capability Program is a 21st century battlespace management system that will provide the Joint Forces Commander with a fully integrated air defense capability. The system uses computer technology to develop an air defense plan that recommends tactical placement of air defense assets from land and sea. AADC Capability production units are initially slated for installation aboard the U.S. Navy’s AEGIS-class cruisers.

"The system will receive inputs from multiple sources and run ‘what if’ scenarios to assist in evaluating where to best position air defense batteries," said Scott Sears, vice president, Defense Programs, General Dynamics Advanced Technology Systems.

The General Dynamics AADC Capability solution features an open systems architecture that is fully expandable to meet the Navy’s current and future operational requirements. The effective application of automation technologies and innovative maintenance and support techniques will reduce future manpower requirements and lower total ownership costs.

"The Navy recognizes that the most important weapon of the 21st century is information and we share the Navy’s vision of network centric warfare," said Chuck McQueary, president, General Dynamics Advanced Technology Systems. "We’re delighted that the Navy has selected us for the AADC Capability Program. We intend to remain the leader in designing network-centric information and battle management systems that support naval operations." The Greensboro-based company is also leading the General Dynamics team competing for the Navy/Marine Corps Intranet program.

The General Dynamics Advanced Technology Systems AADC Capability team includes Bath Iron Works, General Dynamics Electronics Systems, SAIC, BAE SYSTEMS, Autometric, Microsoft Federal Systems and BecTech.

General Dynamics Advanced Technology Systems has been developing advanced communication, sensor and processing systems for Department of Defense and commercial customers for more than 50 years. With 1,150 employees, General Dynamics Advanced Technology Systems has world class competencies in networking, photonics and fiber-optic technologies.

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Va., employs approximately 43,000 people and has annualized sales of approximately $10 billion. The company has leading market positions in shipbuilding and marine systems, land and amphibious combat systems, information systems, and business aviation.
