Farnborough International 2000, July 25, 2000 – The Republic of Singapore Air Force has selected Pratt & Whitney's F-100-PW-229 engines to power its new fleet of 20 F-16 aircraft.
Deliveries of the engines and associated equipment are scheduled to begin in March 2003.
"We are extremely gratified that the Republic of Singapore Air Force has selected Pratt & Whitney engines," said Steve Finger, President of P&W Military Engines. "The PW-229 engine is a solid performer that is giving our customers world-wide excellent performance and reliability."
The Republic of Singapore previously selected the F100-PW-220 engine in 1988 for its first fleet of F-16 aircraft.
In the past nine months, three countries have selected the F100-PW-229 to power new F-16 aircraft. Israel announced its decision to by 50 F100-PW-229-powered F-16's with an option for 60 more; the Republic of Korea selected the F100-STW-229 for its purchase of 20 F-16's; and Greece selected the F100-PW-229 to power its new procurement of 50 F-16s. Like Singapore, both Israel and the Republic of Korea already had P&W F100 engines in their inventory; it was Greece's first purchase.
The PW-229 recently logged 500,000 engine flight hours, a milestone that demonstrates maturity and predictability. Introduced nine years ago, the engine is in service with the U.S. Air Force and four international air forces.
Pratt & Whitney's Military Engines unit designs, develops, tests and supports military jet engines. Pratt & Whitney is part of United Technologies Corporation of Hartford, CT, USA.
