Boeing Fighters of the Future Debut at Farnborough Air Show
FARNBOROUGH, England, July 25, 2000 -- Two Boeing fighter aircraft made their debut at this week's Farnborough International 2000 air show outside London.
The full-scale model of the Boeing Joint Strike Fighter was available for public viewing for the first time, while the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet made its international flying debut at the show.
The JSF model, with functioning cockpit displays and weapons bays, shows what Boeing will build - initially for the U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy and U.K. Royal Air Force and Navy - if the company wins the JSF competition.
The Super Hornet is in production, and Boeing and the U.S. Navy recently signed an $8.9 billion multi-year contract for 222 of the aircraft. The Super Hornets will embark on their first operational deployment in 2002.
