Lockheed Martin Awarded Production Contract for Czech Republic 3rd Generation Miles Training Equipment

ORLANDO, FL, July 5th, 2000 -- Lockheed Martin Information Systems, a unit of Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT), is producing the 3rd Generation Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) for the Army of the Czech Republic. The $4.35 million contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation Command (STRICOM) under the Foreign Military Sales financing program.

"This is another significant international sale of the 3rd Generation MILES," said Lockheed Martin Information Systems President John Hallal. "This contract award reinforces Lockheed Martin's world-wide role as a leading producer of advanced laser-based tactical engagement simulation systems."

This award constitutes the first delivery of 3rd generation MILES training equipment to an Eastern European country. Commonality will now exist between the Czech Republic training system and other NATO countries outfitted with 3rd Generation MILES equipment, including the United States.

Lockheed Martin Information Systems will provide Czech Republic-specific infantry, combat vehicle and anti-tank simulation systems, plus spares, manuals and logistics support. Additional international sales are expected later this year. This contract contributes additional production base to existing Lockheed Martin capability, thus placing the company in a strong position to supply armed forces worldwide with state-of-the-art tactical engagement simulation systems.

"Through the use of eye-safe laser bullets, 3rd Generation MILES simulates the realism of the modern tactical battlefield," said STRICOM Commanding General William Bond, "Commanders at all levels teach the skills required to survive in combat through engagement simulation training exercises that duplicate the lethality and stress of actual combat."

3rd Generation MILES is the latest in a family of tactical engagement simulation systems player equipment developed by Lockheed Martin Information Systems using state-of-the-art electronics technology. Enhanced features of the 3rd Generation MILES include 50 percent weight reduction, smaller components, longer battery life, lower production costs, and reduced system maintenance from previous versions. The advanced devices are interoperable with previous configurations of MILES and are upgradeable for instrumented use at Combat Training Centers and with precision-gunnery configurations.
