Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems Establishes Distinct Lifetime Support Line Of Business
BALTIMORE, MD, May 1st, 2000 -- Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems (NE&SS) today formally organized its Lifetime Support activities for a range of US Navy programs into a distinct line of business, solidifying its position in the Lifetime Support market in which NE&SS presently has annual sales of over $300 million. The newly constituted line of business includes Lifetime Support (LTS) activities in support of surface combatants, submarines, surveillance systems, and maritime patrol platforms and operations, among others. The establishment of the LTS line of business is the culmination of effort by a team representing 12 Lockheed Martin business units that developed common approaches, strategies and best practices in the LTS area over the past year.
In partnership with these operating units and the services organization, NE&SS is sharpening its focus in the lifetime support market, bringing together from across Lockheed Martin what previously had been discrete LTS resources, activities and capabilities. The net effect for customers will be a reduction in the total ownership cost of defense electronics systems and continuously improving mission effectiveness through integrated design, engineering and supportability.
Presently, NE&SS designs, develops and produces advanced mission and combat systems for the US Navy and provides integrated LTS services and backfit engineering services in conjunction with a range of Navy programs. The services organization provides technical and field support to NE&SS in many of these endeavors and also provides lifetime engineering, technical support and related services to the US Navy and allied navies around the world.
The establishment of a distinct LTS line of business will enable Lockheed Martin to provide a more comprehensive response to the need for system improvements, technology refreshment and increased mission system availability within today's tight defense budget constraints.
"This specific line of business provides a prime opportunity for Lockheed Martin to combine and employ its considerable multi-platform engineering and lifetime support resources on behalf of our Navy customers, " said Joseph D. Antinucci, President, Lockheed Martin NE&SS. "The combination of NE&SS' systems integration resources and the services organization creates a powerful and efficient delivery system and further develops our concept of presenting a single integrated Lockheed Martin solution in the marketplace."
Joseph F. Grosson, Senior Program Manager, Navy Systems Lifetime Support at Lockheed Martin NE&SS-Manassas, will lead the new line of business effort.
