
General Dynamics Receives $22 Million Reactive Armor Order
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- General Dynamics Ordnance Systems (GDOS), a subsidiary of General Dynamics Armament Systems, has been awarded an order in the amount of $22 million from the U.S. Army for the production of 86 reactive armor vehicle sets for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. The term of the contract is from May 1, 2000, through December 31, 2001, and includes options for an additional 60 or 120 vehicle sets. The contract also involves modification to the Bradley tile, providing enhanced performance characteristics. Total reactive armor contracts to date stands at $93 million.
"This award represents the continuation of a very successful production campaign for Bradley reactive armor. Customer satisfaction remains very high and this contract award positions us for potential follow on work. The U.S. Army has expressed interest in procuring sets of tiles for up to five mechanized brigades of Bradley vehicles," said Linda Hudson, president of General Dynamics Armament Systems.
General Dynamics reactive armor tiles offer a quickly installed and simple means of adding a significant improvement to a combat vehicle’s ability to withstand a direct hit from a range of anti-armor munitions – and thus protecting its crew. These munitions include shoulder fired, rocket propelled grenades, which are in abundant supply in many of today’s regional conflicts.
