Lockheed Martin Wins Israeli F-15 Pilot Training Contract
AKRON, OH, April 10th, 2000 -- The Israeli Ministry of Defence has awarded Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems-Akron, a business unit of Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), a $22 million contract to deliver in 2001 a Flight and System Trainer (FST) for F-15 pilot training. The F-15 FST will include two high-fidelity cockpits-the F-15I and F-15AUP-for training pilots in all aircraft operations. It also will include a commercial off-the-shelf visual system, a photo-specific database of Israel, and a tactical environment that incorporates more than 200 entities (80 airborne and 120 ground objects). The tactical environment will be programmable from the instructor-operator station.
Accompanying the tactical environment is a synthetic environment that simulates atmospheric pressure, wind and temperature to inject even more realism into the mission scenario. A software development station gives the Israeli Air Force the capability to enhance system features to stay current with future technology improvements.
"A key aspect to this win is the availability of certified training software from our highly successful U.S. Air Force F-15E Weapon Systems Trainer program," Jerry Keehner, executive director-simulation and training programs, said. "We have built four F-15E WSTs for the U.S. Air Force and several other export versions and it's this experience which we leveraged to capture this important program win."
Lockheed Martin has delivered a wide range of aircrew training devices to the U.S. Air Force, Royal Saudi Air Force, Japanese Air Self-defense Force and Swedish Air Force, and is the prime contractor on the U.S. Air Force's F-16 Mission Training Center program.
Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems in Akron, Ohio, is a premier supplier of tactical aircraft simulation and training devices, infrared-based countermeasure systems lighter-than-air surveillance systems, and antisubmarine weapons systems.
