Lockheed Martin Wins Automated Test System Contracts Worth Up To $287 Million

ORLANDO, FL, March 1st, 2000 -- Lockheed Martin Information Systems, a business unit of Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT), has been awarded a contract for continued production of the Consolidated Automated Support System (CASS), the U.S. Navy's standard avionics testing system. With contract with options, the contract is worth up to $287 million. from the U.S. Navy. Under this contract, Lockheed Martin will provide CASS stations in production lots 10 to 13 through 2005. The corporation is the provider for all previous sales of the Navy's standard test system.

"This procurement validates CASS as the most cost-effective and successful automated test system available in the world today," said Lockheed Martin Information Systems President John Hallal. "The CASS reputation for commitment to mission success for the Navy is well established and continues to build as it grows globally."

CASS, the world's largest automated test support program, is the Navy's standard test equipment used to test avionics on aircraft carriers and in depots throughout the United States. Standardization in training and maintenance made possible through fielding of With over 440 fielded CASS systems to date, CASS has saved the Navy an estimated $1 billion;, and the Navy projects savings in excess of $3 billion over the next 15 years.

"These additional stations will allow us to complete our transition to a single modern support system to sustain readiness at greatly reduced life cycle support costs for the next twenty years or more. This contract acknowledges the role that Lockheed Martin Corporation and its suppliers play in maintaining the high state of Navy/Marine Corps aircraft readiness," remarked Marie Greening, Navy's Aviation Support Equipment Program Manager. CASS, a highly flexible automatic test equipment station, eliminates more than 25 unique testers that supported multiple electronic systems. It reduces critical carrier space requirements by over 30 percent. The number of training courses needed were reduced to two from the previous 185, and paperless technical manuals are included to assist Navy technicians. CASS, because of its field-proven reliability, also significantly reduces the need for stocked spare parts.

The system is the first recognized DoD standard test system, providing state-of-the-art general-purpose analog and digital test capabilities, extremely high radio frequency stimulus and measurement capabilities and electro-optical test functions. Four standard configurations of Navy CASS provide intermediate- and depot-level testing with system-to-component-level diagnostic capabilities.

Lockheed Martin employs approximately 6,500 employees at facilities in Central Florida.
