INTRO: Israeli warplanes have attacked suspected
guerrilla positions in southern Lebanon after
rockets and mortars were fired at Israeli
military outposts. As V-O-A Correspondent
Meredith Buel reports from Jerusalem, some
rockets fell inside the Israeli border.
TEXT: Hezbollah guerrillas launched rocket and
mortar attacks on two Israeli military outposts
in south Lebanon.
Israeli security sources say during the attack
some Katyusha rockets fell inside the Israeli
border.
The sources say one of the Army outposts was
damaged but no injuries were reported from the
rocket attacks.
Shortly after the assault, Israeli warplanes
launched air raids on suspected guerrilla
positions in southern Lebanon.
There were no immediate reports of casualties
from the air strikes.
Israel has promised harsh retaliation if the
Iranian-backed Hezbollah guerrillas attack
civilian communities in northern Israel.
Last month, Israeli warplanes destroyed three
power stations in Lebanon in retaliation for
Hezbollah attacks on military positions.
Seven Israeli soldiers have been killed during
fighting in southern Lebanon this year. (SIGNED)
