WE DON'T USE VOLUME EXPLOSION BOMBS, MANILOV COMMENTS

The Federal Forces haven't applied volume explosion bombs in the Chechen mountains, although they have such weapons, stated the First Deputy Chief of the Russian General staff, Colonel General Valery Manilov, at a Moscow's briefing in Moscow. The Russian military command doesn't believe it is necessary to use weapons of this type.

In Manilov's view, there have been up to 1.5 thousand bandits in Grozny by now. Another 7-8 thousands of rebels are massed in the Chechen mountains. Foreign mercenaries and those, who sullied their names with murders, are the most aggressive rebels.

Federal forces have not been using state-of-the-art weapons against the villages and the places, where local citizens might be. We won't do it in the future, Valery Manilov stressed.

Grozny could be liberated in a week, but we won't do this by any means, Valery Manilov said. We won't dedicate the liberating operation to any grand occasion as the most important thing for us is to save the lives of the Russian servicemen and to avoid casualties among citizens, he said. At the same time, the "carcass" of the illegal armed forces in Chechnya will have been liquidated by the New Year. Other dispersed rebels' groups are likely to be destroyed in two or three months, the General noted.
