/// YELTSIN ACT - IN RUSSIAN - FADE UNDER

Mr. Yeltsin asks Mr. Putin for his impressions on
Tuesday's international gathering in Oslo.
U-S President Bill Clinton on Tuesday had warned Prime
Minister Putin that the growing number of civilian
casualties in Chechnya threatened to undermine world
opinion of Russia.
Russian news agencies report the meeting Wednesday
between President Yeltsin and the prime minister
included talks on the military campaign in Chechnya as
well as the plight of almost 200-thousand refugees
fleeing the conflict.
According to an opinion poll released Wednesday, Prime
Minister Putin's popularity is reaching record highs
because of the war with Chechnya, which many Russians
support.
Defense Minister Igor Sergeev said Wednesday that
Russian forces plan to take control not only
Chechnya's main cities, but of the entire republic.
He said Russia's task was to free all of Chechnya from
terrorists. (Signed)
