DATE=10/29/1999 TYPE=CORRESPONDENT REPORT TITLE=AFGHAN / BIN LADEN (S-ONLY) NUMBER=2-255616 BYLINE=SCOTT ANGER DATELINE=ISLAMABAD CONTENT= VOICED AT: INTRO: Taleban officials in Afghanistan say suspected terrorist Osama bin Laden has sent a letter to them outlining his conditions for leaving the country. As V-O-A's Scott Anger reports, the United States has demanded that Afghanistan's Taleban movement turn over the Saudi militant to stand trial for allegedly masterminding the bombings of two U-S embassies in Africa last year. TEXT: The Afghan Islamic Press news agency says Taleban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar received a letter from Mr. bin Laden Friday, in which he stated two conditions for leaving Afghanistan. First, Mr. bin Laden says he wants the Taleban's help in reaching an undisclosed country safely. The second condition for his departure is that only two people in Afghanistan know his whereabouts after he leaves. The Taleban leader has promised to respond to Mr. bin Laden's letter in a couple of days. Earlier this week, U-S officials and the Taleban held talks in Washington to try and reach an agreement over the fate of the suspected terrorist. The U-S accuses Mr. bin Laden of being behind the embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania that killed more than 200 people.
