DATE=10/25/1999 TYPE=CORRESPONDENT REPORT TITLE=U-S - TALEBAN - BIN LADEN (L) (CQ) NUMBER=2-255470 BYLINE=KYLE KING DATELINE=STATE DEPARTMENT CONTENT= VOICED AT: INTRO: Representatives of the U-S Government and Afghanistan's dominant Taleban faction have met in Washington to discuss demands for the expulsion of terror suspect Osama Bin Laden. From the State Department, V-O-A's Kyle King reports. TEXT: Assistant Secretary of State Karl Inderfurth met for more than an hour (Monday) with Taleban representative Abdul Hakeem Mujahid. The Taleban representative left the talks without speaking to reporters. A spokesman for the State Department says the discussions focused on various ideas to resolve the issue of Osama Bin Laden. The spokesman said the clock is running out on a U-N Security Council resolution that calls for sanctions on the Taleban unless Mr. Bin Laden is expelled. The October 15th resolution gave the Taleban 30 days to comply. Saturday, a top Taleban official said Taleban was ready to resolve all issues with the United States, including that of Osama Bin Laden. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright told reporters Monday that the Taleban would have to expel Mr. Bin Laden to improve relations with the United States. /// ALBRIGHT ACT /// We have told them that it is not possible to make progress until Osama Bin Laden has been expelled from Taleban occupied territory to a place where he can be brought to justice. /// END ACT /// A senior U-S official, who asked not to be identified, said this was one issue that nobody was willing to make a prediction about. The United States has accused Mr. Bin Laden of masterminding last year's deadly bombings at the U-S Embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
