INTRO: Afghanistan's Taleban movement says it is
ready to hold talks with the United States to settle
the disputed issue of suspected terrorist Osama bin
Laden. As V-O-A's Scott Anger reports, the Saudi-born
militant is living in Afghanistan and wanted by U-S
law enforcement -- but Taleban officials have refused
to hand him over.
TEXT: Taleban Information Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi
says the Taleban are ready to solve all issues with
the United States -- including the case of Mr. bin
Laden. Mr. Muttaqi says the Taleban want good
relations with Washington and have no ill feelings
against the American people.
The statement follows the Taleban denouncement last
week of a United Nations Security Council resolution
to impose sanctions on Afghanistan if the Taleban fail
to hand over the suspected terrorist for trial by
November 14th.
The Taleban have refused to hand over Mr. bin Laden
because they say he is a guest in Afghanistan. They
say no one has proved his involvement in terrorist
activities.
Osama bin Laden is wanted by the United States for
allegedly masterminding last year's bombings of two U-
S embassies in Africa. (SIGNED)
