Lisa Schlein in Geneva reports the U-N Refugee Agency says it is ready to launch a relief operation into East Timor immediately. TEXT: The U-N Refugee Agency says it is racing against time to help save tens-of-thousands of lives in East Timor. It says thousands of terrified Timorese have been affected by weeks of violence and forcible displacement. U-N-H-C-R Spokesman, Kris Janowski says the situation in the capital, Dili has quieted down somewhat. And U-N staff, for the first time in weeks, has been able to leave the compound and move around the city. He says about one-thousand terrified people are still taking refuge at the U-N compound. In addition, he says thousands of other people are waiting at the harbor. Mr. Janowski says the Indonesian authorities have told them they would be taken to West Timor. /// JANOWSKI ACT /// The High Commissioner is worried about forced expulsions, possible relocation of East Timorese to elsewhere in Indonesia.
