with Indonesia. The aim is to pressure Jakarta to
bring an end to the crisis in East Timor. V-O-A's

TEXT: The American Military Commander in the Pacific
passed the news to Indonesia's top general.
Undersecretary of State Thomas Pickering informed the
U-S Congress.

is suspending its military-to-military
relationship with Indonesia.

He said other sanctions are under consideration.
California Democrat Tom Lantos urged the
administration to chose carefully.

Terminating aid that helps the most needy, the
poorest, the destitute who have suffered so much
in Indonesia would be a mistake.

Congressman Lantos said he holds the Indonesian
