Longbow Limited Liability Company Receives Multi-Year Longbow Missile Contract Potentially Worth $1.2 Billion

PARIS, FRANCE, June 15th, 1999 -- The Longbow Limited Liability Company, a Lockheed Martin/Northrop Grumman joint venture, was awarded a 5-year contract potentially worth $1.2 billion to build 10,397 Longbow Hellfire missiles and associated equipment. The contract was signed during a ceremony at the Army Aviation and Missile Command in Huntsville, Ala., April 30. The Longbow Hellfire is a radar-guided, fire-and-forget anti armor missile system that, together with the Longbow Fire Control Radar, has transformed the Apache attack helicopter into a dominating adverse weather battlefield system.

"Every member of the joint venture, including those at Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and our valued subcontractors, can take justifiable pride in the confidence which this multiyear contract represents," said Longbow LLC president Richard A. Russell of Lockheed Martin. "Associated with this award are cost efficiencies that will benefit the U. S. Army and American taxpayers, while providing our nation's warfighters with leading-edge technology in fire-and-forget missiles," added joint venture vice president Eugene H. Thompson of Northrop Grumman.

Work and revenue share between the joint venture partners is approximately equal. Missile and equipment deliveries extend from through 2005. Manufacturing operations will be take place at Lockheed Martin facilities in Orlando and Ocala, Fla., Nashua, N.H. and Troy, Ala.; and at Northrop Grumman facilities in Baltimore, Md., and Huntsville, Ala.

Previous production contracts have included Low Rate Initial Production awards in December 1995 and February 1997; and an initial full-scale production contract in December 1997.

The Longbow missile program has received several prestigious awards including: the 1998 Order of the Daedalians, Franklin C. Wolfe Memorial Trophy for the most outstanding weapon system operating in the aerospace environment; and the 1998 DoD Life Cycle Cost Reduction Award for an initiative that will save more than $1 billion over ten years.

Based in Orlando and Baltimore, respectively, Lockheed Martin Electronics & Missiles and Northrop Grumman's Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector are leading developers of advanced combat systems for the armed forces.
