Lockheed Martin, Snecma Forge Stronger Ties in Digital Engine Controls, Building on 15-Year Partnership
PARIS, FRANCE, June 15th, 1999 -- Lockheed Martin Control Systems and Snecma Control Systems today announced plans to form a closer working relationship to better support both OEM and airline customers. The companies have been partners for more than 15 years in the design, development, and manufacture of Full Authority Digital Electronic Controls (FADECs) for large commercial aircraft engines. Strengthening ties between Lockheed Martin and Snecma will provide a single point of contact, simplify procurement, and leverage the technologies of each company. "Bringing our companies closer together will improve customer response times in the aftermarket by creating a more global, service-oriented business," said James Scanlon, president of Lockheed Martin Control Systems.
"This cooperation aims to make a quantum leap in terms of customer value," said Jacques Bouhelier, vice president and general manager of Snecma Control Systems. "We are leveraging our long cooperation born at the genesis of FADEC on commercial engines and combining the best of both companies in this market segment."
The FADECs jointly produced by Lockheed Martin and Snecma are used on some of the world's most successful large aircraft engines, including the CFM56-5A/-5B/-5C/-7B, CF6-80C2/-80E, and the GE90. These controls have accumulated more than 50 million hours of service with the lowest in-flight shutdown rate in the industry.
