Kamov/IAI Attack Helicopter in flight test program in preparation for upcoming demonstration to Turkey in August

Jun 14, 1999

Israel Aircraft Industries and the Kamov Company have teamed together to offer the two-seater Ka-50-2 attack helicopter to the Turkish Land Forces.

Following an extensive flight program, now underway in Russia, the Kamov/IAI helicopter will be demonstrated this August in Turkey.

The main goal of the Kamov/IAI joint effort was to offer potential customers, an end product that featured state-of-the-art western avionics, combined with a robust platform, a combination that offers excellent value in terms of price and performance.

Kamov will be responsible for the helicopter airframe while IAI's Lahav Division is responsible for the avionics and the weapons delivery system. Lahav is a world leader in upgrading both fighters and other type of military aircraft including helicopters.

The Kamov Ka-50-2 helicopter features superior flight performance, safe and easy piloting and high combat survivability due to its unique coaxial rotor technology. IAI will provider a modular avionics suite that can be tailored to meet individual customer requirements.

To date, the flight test program has shown that the "Glass Cockpit", with multi-functional displays, and a Control & Display Unit, driven by a centralized mission and display computer to be very "operator friendly". The operational concept developed by IAI, has reduced pilot workload and has improved operational efficiency.

The flight test program is continuing with a demonstration of night mission capability utilizing Night Vision Goggles and a day/night targeting system.

Both IAI and Kamov have proven track records in the supply of military and commercial equipment, including Integrated Logistic Support to foreign customers.

IAI will be responsible for the integrity of all support elements of the KA-50-2 program.

IAI and Kamov has developed programs to cooperate with Turkey's local aerospace industries in the event, the Kamov/IAI attack helicopter is selected.
