Israel Aircraft Industries Tamam Division Develops New Ultra Lightweight Plug-In Optronic Payload
Jun 10, 1999
Israel Aircraft Industries Tamam Division has developed a new generation ultra-lightweight electro-optic payload.
The new system has been designated POP which stands for Plugged-In Optronic Payload.
The POP is a modular, stabilized dual EO/Infra-red sensor payload. It is designed for day/night operations for UAVs and helicopters. A single observer, using a hand control unit and TV monitor, operates the system.
POP is based on a plugged-in concept and can host various sensor slices (laser ranger finder, long range CC TV, FLIR and color TV) that can be easily replaced in the field within minutes without the need for alignment or adjustment.
POP is designed as a day/night observation system with high performance Indium Antimonide (InSb) focal-plane-array thermal imagery and color TV camera. Automatic video tracking exists as an option for all configurations.
