IAIs Elta subsidiary wins contract for advanced Tactical Ground Surveillance Radar
Jun 10, 1999
A contract to supply 180 tactical ground surveillance radars was recently awarded to ELTA Electronics Industries, a subsidiary of Israel Aircraft Industries, by an undisclosed Asian country.
The ELTA radar was selected following extensive operational field tests in the customer's country, where it competed against French and British companies.
The selected system is one component of a family of advanced, state-of-the-art, medium range tactical ground surveillance radar designed and manufactured by ELTA. It provides a comprehensive picture of the surveillance area and automatically detects, identifies, locates and tracks targets such as tanks, vehicles, walking personnel, helicopters, gliders, low-flying aircraft, ships and small boats, as well as locating artillery shell bursts to provide fire correction data for artillery units.
Special features include Track-While-Scan capability of up to 60 targets simultaneously, accurately displaying the position, speed and heading of each target, automatic target recognition and differentiation, low probability of intercept and capability to operate in severe ECM and clutter conditions.
Particular attention has been placed on facile, user friendly, operation and display, interface to other sensors such as electro-optics, plotter, printer, GPS and communication links, reliability, maintainability, and an extensive logistic support and training package.
Deployment configuration possibilities include portable, quadripod mounted, with a control and display unit up to 100 meters away; vehicle mounted, or fixed installation. The equipment is capable of operation from diverse power sources, e. g. 240V 50 Hz AC, 28V DC generator or 28V DC vehicle battery.
Radar systems of this family are in current production in ELTA, and are operational with Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and several defense forces in Europe, Asia and South America.
ELTA is located in Ashdod, Israel.
