Jun 10, 1999
Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd. (IAI), Electronic Group, through its ELTA Electronics Industries Ltd. subsidiary and the MBT Division have recently been contracted by Ingalls Shipyards, Mississippi USA, to supply advanced radar and weapon control systems to be installed on Venezuelan Lupo class frigates. The two contracts include ELTA?s 3-D surveillance and threat alert radar (STAR) EL/M-2238, and MBT?s new model, off-the-shelf based weapon control system.
The contracts are part of the overall modernization program carried out by Ingalls to refurbish and upgrade two Lupo class Venezuelan Navy frigates. The ELTA radar will replace the existing RAN-10S radar, enhancing air/surface targets search and alert. MBT's dual redundancy weapon control system will replace and enhance the existing NA-10 system to control the 127 mm and 40 mm guns as well as the Albatross SAMs.
