Lockheed Martin to Reveal X-35 Joint Strike Fighter, introduce new FLIR technology, announce new partnership as it sets Paris Air Show schedule
BETHESDA, MD, June 7th, 1999 -- Lockheed Martin will reveal previously unseen aspects of its Joint Strike Fighter program while the C-130J Hercules and F-16 Fighting Falcon will be showcased in flying and static displays during the 1999 Paris Air Show June 13-20 at Le Bourget, France. For the first time, journalists will be able to see the X-35 taking shape via live interactive satellite broadcast from Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems facilities in Fort Worth, Texas, and Lockheed Martin Skunk Works in Palmdale, California. They also will have an opportunity to ask questions during the live hook-up.
This X-35 Joint Strike Fighter media opportunity will take place during a briefing on Lockheed Martin's Aeronautics Sector conducted by James A. "Micky" Blackwell, the sector's president and chief operating officer, beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, at the Lockheed Martin Briefing Center, Hall 1, Space E-9, within the USA Pavilion.
Lockheed Martin recently joined the forward and mid-fuselage sections of its X-35 Joint Strike Fighter concept demonstrator aircraft ahead of schedule as its program continues within the original budget and schedule toward downselect in 2001.
A C-130J will be on display adjacent to the Lockheed Martin chalet, Row A, #402, and an F-16 will be on display within the U.S. Department of Defense corral. Both aircraft will fly during the show and the F-16 will feature an all-new program that will highlight more than 12 high-performance maneuvers that demonstrate the Fighting Falcon's advanced air combat capabilities.
Lockheed Martin will introduce a new transatlantic partner it is teaming with on new production-ready, third-generation FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) technology and imagery for fighter aircraft precision strike that significantly exceeds the performance of currently deployed systems. Tactical aircrews have verified the new system's superior performance in combat aircraft flight tests. The new technology can be easily retrofitted into current products like LANTIRN and NITE Hawk, and can serve as the basis for future systems.
Lockheed Martin also will highlight some of its more than 200 international partnerships, more than half of which are with European companies.
