Arlington, Va., May 26, 1999 -- CACI International Inc (NASDAQ: CACI) today announced that it has been awarded a $49 million contract by the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, to provide Readiness Based Sparing (RBS) services that help the Navy manage weapon system spare parts and components at ship and shore locations throughout the world. A follow-on to CACI’s current five-year contract, the recompete award is a cost-plus-fixed fee contract for one year with four option years.
The objective of the RBS contract is ensure the operational readiness of shipboard and Naval aviation weapon systems. CACI’s services help the Navy provide effective and cost-efficient lifecycle management of weapon systems and equipment, from manufacture to delivery and Fleet operations. The company will provide worldwide RBS services to NAVSUP, the Fleets, the Navy Systems Commands, and other activities within the NAVSUP infrastructure.
CACI’s RBS solutions include the design and development of computer modeling programs that determine which spare parts are needed, how many, and where they should be located. CACI has also integrated these programs with automated tools on the CACI-developed "RBS workstation" that provides a user-friendly environment for fast and comprehensive parts management. Other services include logistics engineering, which provides an interface between logisticians and engineer designers and maintainers to ensure maximally responsive RBS programs; and RBS analyses, which use RBS programs to assess other readiness issues, such as the reliability and maintainability of systems and equipment.
"CACI’s RBS and logistics systems technology has grown along with Navy requirements," said Dr. J.P. (Jack) London, CACI Chairman and CEO. "In the course of supporting more than 100 weapon systems over the past two decades, we’ve intercepted emerging technology, evaluated it, and applied it to RBS use when we know it will further Navy goals. We will continue to do this as we help the Navy drive down weapon system support costs and lead its logistics capabilities into the 21st century. At a time when our armed forces face many potential worldwide threats, CACI is there developing and delivering technical solutions that help maintain the highest levels of military preparedness."
