Hellfire II Lot 30 Cleared for Delivery After a Perfect Day on the Range

ORLANDO, FL, March 26th, 1999 -- The laser-guided AGM-114K Hellfire II missile continued its winning ways February 24, when four missiles were successfully test-flown at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida in Quality Assurance Lot Verification Tests.

The missiles were randomly selected from Hellfire IIs built in January as Lot 30. The missiles scored direct hits on flight range target plates between three and five kilometers downrange. They were "pre-aged" by extensive vibration, and pre-conditioned to represent a harsh environmental setting. With these tests, Lot 30 was cleared for customer delivery. They extend the missile?s mission success record to 107 out of 110 firings in its current configuration.

An upgraded version of the Hellfire missile, Hellfire II is a principal armament for Apache attack helicopters serving U.S. Army and allied forces; and for the U.S. Marine Corps Super Cobra. The U.S. Navy has deployed Hellfire II on SH-60 and HH-60 helicopters, and ground launched applications have been successfully tested for the international market.

Hellfire II is designed to counter ground and naval threats well into the 21st century. The missile is a product of the Hellfire Systems Limited Liability Company (HSLLC), a joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Boeing.

With headquarters in Orlando, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is a world leader in electro-optics, smart munitions, anti-armor and air defense systems. The company is an operating element of Lockheed Martin Electronics Sector, based in Bethesda, Maryland.

Boeing Military Aircraft and Missile Systems produces a variety of high quality, cost-efficient defense systems for U.S. and international customers. It is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri.
