Boeing Offers C-17s for European Future Transport Aircraft
LONG BEACH, Calif., Feb. 01, 1999 -- Boeing today submitted a proposal to the ministries of defense of Belgium, France, Spain and the United Kingdom in response to a request for proposal for the Future Transport Aircraft.
The response, which details the Boeing solution to meet the nations' need for military airlift, includes the versatile C-17 Globemaster III, training and support options. A decision is expected early next year.
"We believe the C-17 provides the best combination of operational capability, flexibility and reliability of any airlift airplane in history," said Dr. David Spong, Boeing vice president and C-17 program manager. "The C-17 truly is the new standard in airlift."
Spong, on behalf of Boeing Airlift and Tanker Programs, builders of the C-17, will accept the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award from President Clinton Feb. 4. The unit was named a Baldrige winner for its business excellence.
