The 98th Area Support Group's (ASG) Security Division is located in Faulenburg Kaserne, Wuerzburg, Germany. The mission of the Security Division is to provide Security and Intelligence support to the 98th ASG and its Base Support Battalions. The Security Division provides information in the areas of Personnel Security, Information Security, Information Assurance, Communications Security (COMSEC) and Travel Information.
Wuerzburg has one of the three hospitals in USAREUR. The 67th Evacuation Hospital, about five minutes from Leighton Barracks, boasts a new wing with the latest medical equipment. It offers family practice, an outpatient clinic and an emergency room for after-hour and weekend emergencies. The 67th Combat Support Hospital and U.S. Army Medical Department Activity, Wuerzburg, is a unique dual-mission organization - a deployable combat hospital with an imbedded medical department activity. The Wuerzburg Hospital, home of the 67th CSH is one of the few remaining dual-mission medical units in the Army, and is the only one in U.S. Army Europe.
The Department of Defense announced on July 29, 2005 plans for the return of eleven Army bases to Germany in fiscal year 2007. Additionally, two other bases were identified for return to Germany in following years. These installation returns were scheduled as part of plans for the 1st Infantry Division headquarters'return to the United States with its divisional flag in the summer of 2006. Additionally, the 1st Infantry Division's subordinate units, as well as selected V Corps and U.S. Army in Europe units, return to the United States, inactivate entirely, convert, or be reassigned in Europe to support Army transformation in fiscal year 2006. Headquarters, Headquarters Detachment and A Detachment, 106th Finance Battalion will inactivate (E Detachment of this unit is stationed in Bamberg and will also inactivated, B (Grafenwoehr/Vilseck), C (Schweinfurt) and D (Ansbach) Detachments will reorganize under the 39th Finance Battalion.).
