Camp Varnum

The 243rd Regiment (Regional Training Institute), Rhode Island Army National Guard is located at Camp Varnum, 1 Chancellorsville Road, Narragansett, RI. The 243d Regiment (RTI) provides regionalized Combat Arms, Leadership, Military Occupational Speciality (MOS), Additional Skill Identifier (ASI), Noncommissioned Officer Education System (NCOES), aand General Studies Training for the Army National Guard, United States Army Reserve, and the Active Component.

In 1999 the Rhode Island Wing of the Civil Air Patrol hosted a spring encampment at Camp Varnum, R.I., for cadets and senior members from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and Indiana. The 143rd Air National Guard contributed to the event with an escape-and-evasion exercise, rapelling and a Cobra gunship helicopter. Through volleyball, C-130 tours and completing the obstacle course, the cadets achieved activities.
