913th Airlift Wing [913th AW]
The 913th Troop Carrier Group (TCP) was established and activated on January 15, 1963. On February 11, 1963 the TCG was organized in the Reserve and assigned to the 512th TCW at Willow Grove to administer the 327th Troop Carrier Squadron. On January 8, 1965 the 512th TCW relocated to Carswell Air Force Base, TX, and the 913th TCG assumed the role as host unit of the Air Reserve Facility. The flying unit converted to the C-130A "Hercules" in 1970 and in 1976 reconverted to the C-130E model.
The 913th TCG was re-designated the 913th Tactical Airlift Group (AG) in July 1967. The unit was again re-designated the 913th Airlift Group on February 1, 1992.
Willow Grove Air Reserve Facility was re-designated the 913th Airlift Wing and assigned to 10th Air Force, Bergstrom ARS, TX, on October 1, 1994.
The 913th Airlift Wing was reassigned to 22nd Air Force, Dobbins ARB, GA, February 1997.
Headquarters, Air Force Reserve selected the 913AW in November 1992 as its representative for the Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award for 1992. This award, established by the President in 1984, recognizes the outstanding efforts of the people who operate and maintain military installations.
The 913th AW dedicated and environmentally safe fuel farm on December 5, 1992. Extraordinary steps were taken to provide total quality assurance, to protect the air and ground, and to provide a safe working environment for fuel management personnel.
The 913th AW has been involved and continues to be involved in strategic and humanitarian efforts throughout the . Reservists from the 913th have taken part in operations such as Desert Shield/Storm - Southwest Asia (December 1990 to April 1991); Provide Relief - Somalia (August to November 1992); Hurricane Andrew - Florida (September 1992); Phoenix Oak (now Coronet Oak) - Panama (December1992, May to June 1993 and June 1994. Provide Promise - Bosnia (September 1992 to May 1994); Uphold Democracy - Haiti (October to November 1994); Provide Comfort II - Turkey (November to December 1994); Air Force Reserve Airlift Support (July 1992 - December 1995); Partnership for Peace (July 1995); Operation Southern Watch - Saudi Arabia and Oman (March to April 1996); Drug Enforcement Agency Support - Caribbean and South America (Ongoing); Joint Airborne/Air Transportability Training Missions (Ongoing as of mid-2001).
The mission of the 913th AW is tactical delivery of people, equipment, and supplies to the battlefield.
