651st Air Expeditionary Group
The 651st Air Expeditionary Group allows for centralized command and control of the rescue mission at Kandahar Air Field and Camp Bastion (also known as Forward Operating Base Bastion). The 651st Air Expeditionary Group has a similar mission to the 451st Expeditionary Operations Group, a core part of the 451st Air Expeditionary Wing to which the Group is assigned, but operates out of Camp Bastion.
The 651st Air Expeditionary Group became the newest group under the 451st Air Expeditionary Wing on 29 June 2011. Under its control were many units previously assigned to the 451st Expeditionary Operations Group, but included support units to better serve assets stationed out at Camp Bastion. As of 2012, the 651st Air Expeditionary Group consisted of the 26th Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, the 46th Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, the 76th Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, and the 651st Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron and associated Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility.
