451st Expeditionary Operations Group

The 451st Expeditionary Operations Group is responsible for conducting flying and aeromedical evacuation operations for the 451st Air Expeditionary Wing. The group oversees the day-to-day operations of one A-10 Thunderbolt II squadron (75th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron), one C-130H airlift squadron (772nd Expeditionary Airlift Squadron), an MQ-1 squadron (62nd Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron), a combined US-UK MQ-9 squadron (42nd Expeditionary Attack Squadron), an airborne datalink capability, and control reporting center. The 451st Expeditionary Operations Group also has command of rescue and airlift detachments at Forward Operating Base Bastion. Additionally, the operations group oversees a range of support functions such as airfield management and operations, intelligence, and weather.

Prior to the activation of the 651st Air Expeditionary Group on 29 June 2011, the 451st Expeditionary Operations Group had overseen the the day-to-day operations of the 305th Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, which operated the HH-60G helicopter. The search and rescue mission was subsequently transferred to the 651st Air Expeditionary Group. The 451st Expeditionary Operations Group had also overseen day-to-day operations of the joint USAF-US Army 702nd Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, which operated the C-27J Spartan. The 702nd Expeditionary Airlift Squadron was inactivated on 18 June 2012.
