350th Air Refueling Squadron [350th ARS]

The 350th Air Refueling Squadron was constituted as the 350th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy) on 28 January 1942 and activated on 1 June 1942 at Orlando AB, FL. The squadron was assigned to the 100th Bombardment Group, from 1 June 1942 to 15 December 1945, flying the B-17.

The squadron deployed to Thorpe Abbots, England, from 2 June 1943 to 9 December 1945. During that period, the squadron was redesignated as the 350th Bombardment Squadron, Heavy, on 20 August 1943. The squadron was inactivated on 15 December 1945 at Camp Kilmer, NJ.

Redesignated as the 350th Bombardment Squadron, Very Heavy, on 9 July 1947, the unit was activated in the Reserve on 16 July 1947 at Columbia AAB, SC, 16 July 1947-27 June 1949, with the AT-6, AT-7, and AT-11 aircraft assigned to it. The unit was inactivated on 27 June 1949.

Redesignated the 350th Bombardment Squadron, Medium, on 1 August 1955, the 350th was reactivated on 1 January 1956 at Porstmouth(later Pease) AFB, NH, flying the B-47 and assigned to the 100th Bombardment Wing (later 100th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing). The unit deployed to Brize Norton RAF Stn, England, from 4 January to 4 March 1958, and to Torrejon AB, Spain, from 4 March to 4 April 1958. For the duration of that last deployment, the squadron was attached to the Sixteenth Air Force.

Redesignated 350th Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron on 25 June 1966, the 350th was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ operating AQM-34 strategic reconnaissance drones launched from DC-130 aircraft and recovered by CH-3 helicopters. The squadron was again inactivated on 1 July 1976.

Redesignated as the 350th Air Refueling Squadron, Heavy, on 19 January 1982, the unit was reactivated on 28 January 1982 at Beale AFB, CA. The squadron was attached to the 100th Air Refueling Wing and was assigned the KC-135 aircraft.

The aircraft was reassigned to the 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing on 15 March 1983 where it provided refueling support for SR-71 aircraft.

The 350th provided cargo support and intratheater refueling during combat in Southwest Asia, from August 1990 to March 1991. Redesignated the 350th Air Refueling Squadron on 1 September 1991, it was reassigned to the 9th Operations Group. The squadron was reassigned to the 43rd Operations Group on 1 October 1993.

The 350th squadron was reassigned to the 22nd Operations Group, on 1 July 1994 and moved to McConnell AFB, KS.
