312th Training Squadron [312th TRS]
The mission of the 312th Training Squadron is to provide DoD and International Customers with Mission Ready Fire Protection and Special Instruments Graduates and provide mission support for the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC).
The 312th TRS provides technical training, professional development and care of trainees in the fields of Joint Fire Protection and Special Instruments. The squadron is composed of a a permanent party staff of 190 instructors and support staff who train an annual student flow of 2,600 in 20 courses.
Joint Fire Protection training is conducted at the Louis F. Garland Fire Academy, a $44 million facility, opened in 1995.
The 312th TRS was originally designated and activated on 1 July 1978 as the 3480th Technical Training Group and assigned to the 3480th Technical Training Wing stationed at Goodfellow AFB, TX.
Redesignated as 3480th Technical Training Squadron on 1 February 1992, it was reassigned to the Assigned to 3480th Technical Training Group.
Redesignated as 312th Technical Training Squadron on 15 September 1992, it was reassigned to the 391st Technical Training Group (redesignated from 3480th Technical Training Group), and later, on 1 July 1993, reassigned to the 17th Technical Training Group (redesignated from 391st Technical Training Group).
Redesignated as the 312th Training Squadron on 1 April 1994, it was reassigned to 17th Training Group (redesignated from 17th Technical Training Group).
