311th Training Squadron [311th TRS]

The mission of the 311th Training Squadron is to educate, train and equip airmen to reach their fullest linguistic and military potential.

The 311th TRS provides support to Air Force students undergoing basic and advanced foreign language training at the Defense Language Institute (DLI).

The squadron has approximately 1,000 Air Force students and permanent party personnel assigned to it.

The 311th TRS was originally designated and activated as the 3483d Student Squadron on 1 January 1979, assigned to the 3480th Technical Training Group and stationed at the Presidio, Monterey, CA. It was reassigned to the 3480th Student Group on 1 October 1984.

Redesignated as the 3483d Military Training Squadron on 1 February 1992, it was reassigned to the 3480th Technical Training Group upon inactivation of the 3480th Student Group.

Redesignated as the 311th Military Training Squadron on 15 September 1992, it was reassigned to the 391st Technical Training Group (redesignated from 3480th Technical Training Group). It was reassigned to the 17th Technical Training Group (redesignated from 391st Technical Training Group) on 1 July 1993.

Redesignated as the 311th Training Squadron on 1 April 1994, it was reassigned to the 17th Training Group (redesignated from 17th Technical Training Group).
