188th Fighter Squadron [188th FS]
The 188th Fighter Squadron "Enchilada Air Force" traces its origins to the 188th Fighter Bomber Squadron activated on 7 July 1947. The 188th's mission was changed from fighter bomber to fighter-interceptor in 1948.
In January 1958, the 188th transitionned to the F-100 Super Sabre maircraft.
In June 1968, the 188th Tactical Fighter Squadron and approximately 250 maintenance and support personnel were deployed to Tuy Hoa Air Base. Republic of Vietnam. During the course of that deployment, the 188th TFS flew over 6000 sorties.
In the early 1970's, the 188th TFS maintained a detachment of F-100Cs at Holloman AFB, New Mexico, to provide tactical training support to the US Army's radar and anti-aircraft schools at Fort Bliss, Texas.
The 188th FS's aircraft inventory comprises of 19 F-16C Block 40 LANTIRN jet fighters and 15 F-16C Block 30s, and reportedly some F-16D models.
