152nd Fighter Squadron [152nd FS]

The 152nd Fighter Squadron was initially activated on 13 Oct 1939 as the 152nd Observation Squadron, Rhode Island National Guard.

Until deactivation on 6 Nov 1945, the squadron was assigned the observation/reconnaissance mission flying the O-38, O-47, O-52, O-46, O-49, O-58, O-9, A-20, B-25, DB-7, P-39, P-38, and the F-5 (P-51K) aircraft. On 15 Sep 1948, the squadron was reactivated as the 152nd Fighter Bomber Squadron, flying the P-47 out of Theodore Francis Green Airport, Warwick, RI. On 1 Sep 1952, the squadron became the 152nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron, flying F-51's.

In early 1954, the squadron entered the jet age with the F-84D. Because the Rhode Island airport was not suitable for jets, the unit was officially transferred to, and federally recognized as a unit of the Arizona Air National Guard. On 18 May 1956, it became the 152nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron, and began flying the F-86A jet aircraft. In 1958, the squadron converted to the supersonic F-100A Super Sabre, which it continued to fly until converting to the all weather F-102 interceptor in 1968.

In March of 1969 the squadron was redesignated the 152nd Tactical Fighter Training Squadron.
