Activities Baltimore
U.S. Coast Guard Activities Baltimore, commissioned December 9, 1995, was a result of integrating Marine Safety Office and Group Baltimore. Activities Baltimore was the first of several prototype commands established by the Coast Guard's National Streamlining Plan. Activities Baltimore provides equal, or better service, at less cost to the taxpayer, by serving as the "one-stop Coast Guard shopping center" for the upper Chesapeake Bay.
Immediately after September 11th's tragic events, Coast Guard Activities Baltimore exercised Captain of the Port Authority in establishing two security zones to restrict all vessel movement on sections of the Potomac River as well as in portions of the Port of Baltimore. While all vessels are now permitted to transit throughout the Port of Baltimore, the U.S. Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies will continue their increased presence on the water to ensure safety and security.
