The Directorate for State Secrets Protection (UODT*) is an independent element within the Security Service of Ukraine, which, under Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine "On State Secrets," undertakes to organize and coordinate measures on performing tasks incumbent on the Security Service of Ukraine as a special authority responsible for the protection of state secrets.
Key functions of the Directorate for State Secrets Protection (UODT*) are as follows:
- to implement state policy measures aimed at enhancing the national system of state secrets protection and providing legal support in its functioning;
- to render methodological assistance to state authorities, local self-government bodies, institutions, organizations, and enterprises regards their compliance with state secrets protection requirements;
- to provide organizational and methodological support to government experts on state secrets; and
- to organize and exercise control over the protection of state secrets in state authorities, local self-government bodies, institutions, organizations, and enterprises dealing with state secrets.
