Directorate for Legal Matters and Agreements (DPU)
The SBU Legal Office was founded to improve providing of legal support of the Security Service of Ukraine on 31 December, 1991.
Afterwards, due to organizational and staff-related changes based on a new organizational structure approved by the President of Ukraine, the Legal Office has been reorganized into the Directorate for Legal Matters and Agreements (DPU SBU). The primary tasks to be fulfilled by the Directorate for Legal Matters and Agreements are as follows:
- To provide legal support of SBU's operations;
- To participate in the organization of legal work aimed at providing correct application, strict observance, and prevention of noncompliance by the SBU staff of legislative, internal rules and regulatory requirements of the Security Service of Ukraine in carrying out operations and performing service functions;
- To assist in establishing, developing, and strengthening the cooperation of the Security Service of Ukraine with foreign secret services and law enforcement authorities, as well as international organizations for fulfillment of tasks incumbent on the SBU; and
- To exercise advocacy of the SBU in the courts.
