Department for Information Support and Management of Operations (DIU)
As a leading element in organization and control of SBU operations, the Department for Informational Support and Management of Operations (DIU*) provides for their informational, regulatory and legal support.
Within the competence specified for the Security Service, the Department has the following responsibilities:
- to organize strategic planning of SBU operations and their informational support based on the analysis and projections for trends in operating conditions; to supervise operational and investigative activities of elements and divisions of the SBU and to control the compliance of SBU officers with the requirements of the legislation in force and internal regulations in the course of their carrying out;
- to organize and carry out the writing of regulations, as well as legal support in elaboration of regulations' drafts jointly with other ministries and agencies; to control activities related to legal matters in the SBU system and to plead SBU causes in court; to ensure the observance of current legislative provisions, particularly on parliamentary and presidential control and public prosecution office supervision of SBU activities;
- to organize storage and use of files kept in the SBU State Archives; and
- to provide for the analysis and coverage of the results of SBU operations in internal periodicals and also the mass media; to coordinate and support SBU's elements and divisions in the development of their official contacts and relations with foreign partners.
