The High Command of the Armed Forces (Al Kiada al Ulia Kuwait Mussallah) was the new title adopted in 1993 for former Military Intelligence (Istikhbarat Askaria). It remained under the orders of Colonel Mustapha Kharrubi, inspector general of the armed forces and one of the five historical leaders of the Libyan revolution. In 1995 Col. Jumaa bin Niran, former head of the security battalions in Tripoli, became chief of military intelligence in succession to Humaidi. He was assisted by Col. Musbah al Amrussi and LTC Abdullah Mahmud Hijazi.
