The SSU Counterintelligence has prevented a second assassination attempt on Ukrainian journalist Dmytro Gordon. As a result of a multi-stage special operation in Kyiv, four FSB agent-combat groups and their coordinator, who were preparing the contract killing, were apprehended simultaneously.

The russian special services offered a reward of USD 400,000 for the crime.

The investigation established that the occupiers had entrusted the preparation of the assassination attempt on the well-known journalist to a deep undercover agent in Kyiv.

He turned out to be a 36-year-old russian citizen from the North Caucasus, whom the FSB had sent to Ukraine even before the full-scale invasion under the guise of a political exile from russia.

For greater secrecy, the russian special services fabricated criminal cases against him and declared him wanted.

After the start of the full-scale war, the asset received an assignment from his handler: to create agent-combat groups in Kyiv from individuals from the North Caucasus.

Having found 'like-minded people', he purchased several cars with FSB funds, disguised them as a taxi service, and equipped them with hidden video recorders.

Agents drove these cars to spy on Gordon in order to establish his daily routine, frequent locations, and the presence of security.

According to the FSB's plan, after attacking the victim with a firearm, the killer was to quickly flee the scene, dispose of the murder weapon, and lay low. To this end, the head agent was looking for a motorcycle.

The SSU Counterintelligence acted preemptively and detained the resident agent and all members of the agent-combat groups while they were preparing for the assassination.

The Security Service also established that the network received additional tasks to adjust enemy strikes and orders to assassinate foreigners fighting for Ukraine. Among them was a russian who is currently fighting for our country as part of the RDK.

Investigators of the Security Service have notified the detainees of suspicion of the crime under Article 258.1 of the CCU (terrorist act).

The suspects are in custody and face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

In September 2024, the Security Service dismantled another FSB agent network that was preparing terrorist attacks in Ukraine, including the assassination of Dmytro Gordon.
