MP: IRGC intelligence body reports to Parliament on Jason Rezaian

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Oct 4, IRNA -- Spokesman for Parliament's National Security and Foreign Relations Commission said on Sunday that Intelligence body of Islamic Revolution Guard Corps gave a report to that commission on Jason Rezaian's file.

Nozar Shafiee told IRNA that IRGC intelligence officer explained about activities of reporter of Associated Press Jason Rezaian deemed destructive to the governing system.

'According to the Intelligence body of the IRGC Rezaian is an American citizen of Iranian origin who is considered of great significance for the US administration making serious efforts aimed at freeing him,' said Shafiee.

Jason Rezaian was commissioned to implement the mentality of those US senators who believe if the Americans would manage to restore the level of its relations to the pre-Islamic Revolution era, then the Iranian revolutionary political system would easily be overthrown, he quoted the IRGC Intelligence officer as saying.

After nine months of speculation, it was made public on April 20, 2015 that Iranian officials have indicted Rezaian on four charges, including espionage and 'propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.'

Rezaian's trial began on May 26, 2015 and Iranian officials including Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani last month during an IPU Conference in US and President Hassan Rouhani during his recent UN General Assembly attendance proposed his exchange with an Iranian prisoner in US.
