Greenwald: There is second NSA leaker after Snowden

American journalist Glenn Greenwald suggests that another leaker is providing the US National Security Agency's documents to the media.

In a tweet over the weekend, Greenwald wrote the existence of a second leaker after US whistleblower Edward Snowden "seems clear at this point."

"The lack of sourcing to Snowden on this & that last article seems petty telling," he added.

His tweet came after a German site published an analysis of the NSA's XKEYSCORE code that does not appear to have come from former NSA contractor Snowden.

The report fuelled speculations among experts that there may be another leaker at the US spy agency.

German public broadcaster ARD said in a report on Thursday that the NSA is using its XKEYSCORE data collection program to secretly track internet users who search for details about software to stay hidden online.

"I've long thought one of the most significant and enduring consequences of Snowden's successful whistleblowing will be that he will inspire other leakers to come forward," Greenwald said in an email to The Hill on Monday.

Meanwhile, cybersecurity expert Bruce Schneier confirmed the existence of another whistleblower.

'I do not believe that this came from the Snowden documents...I think there's a second leaker out there," he said.

Snowden began leaking classified intelligence documents in June 2013, revealing the extent of the NSA's spying activities.

He revealed that the spy agency has been collecting the phone records of millions of Americans and foreign nationals as well as political leaders around the world.
