Ukraine's security service denies consultations with CIA

5 May 2014, 17:23 -- The state security service of Ukraine (SBU) denies it is consulting with experts of the US Central Intelligence Agency, Marina Ostapenko, spokesperson for the SBU said Monday. 'As far as I know, there are no consultations with the CIA at the level of the security service,' she said.

German Sunday newspaper Bild am Sonntag reported May 4 the CIA and the FBI were providing consultations to the government in Kiev at the US Administration's instruction.

The publication said the consultations were aimed to help Kiev suppress protests in the country's eastern regions and to build up a viable security structure.

In addition, the report assured that neither CIA nor FBI consultants were involved in combat actions in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions and all their activity was restricted to the capital.

Dozens of CIA, FBI agents are giving security advice to Ukraine's self-appointed gov't

Numerous US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents have been giving security advice to Ukraine's self-proclaimed government, according to what one German newspaper reported. With unmentioned German security sources being cited on, Bild am Sonntag said that the CIA and FBI agents were assisting Kiev in ending the rebellion in Ukraine's east and established a working security structure.

As reported on by Agence France-Presse (AFP), it was said the agents were not directly involved in fighting with pro-Russian militants. 'Their activity is limited to the capital Kiev,' the newspaper stated, according to rawstory.com. It was also mentioned that the FBI officials are helping out the so-called government body in Kiev fight against organized crime.

A team of specialists that deal with financial issues has been called in to try to track down the wealth of Ukraine's overthrown President Viktor Yanukovych, according to information from the report. Tension has only increased in Ukraine's east with over 50 people having died in the most recent of days during intense battles.

Just a month ago, the White House verified that CIA director John Brennan had dropped by Kiev as part of a routine visit to Europe. This move, once confirmed, was condemned by Moscow.
