Ecuador Seeks OAS Support In Assange Row With Britain
August 23, 2012
Ecuador is seeking support from the Organization of American States (OAS) in its diplomatic row with Britain over WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
President Rafael Correa says he expects a "forceful repudiation" of what he has called threats by Britain to forcibly remove Assange from the London embassy.
Correa last week accused Britain of colonialism for threatening to enter Ecuador's embassy in London to arrest Assange and extradite him to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning in connection with alleged sexual misconduct.
An emergency OAS meeting is scheduled for August 24 in Washington to discuss the Ecuador-Britain row.
