TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iranian scientists built vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft capable of using non-metric cameras to prepare large-scale maps.
A faculty member of Iranian Khajeh Nasir Toosi University of Technology, Masoud Varshowsaz who has presented the system's plan said a quadrotor was built for mapping.
Quadrotor is not a new system and has been already built and used for watching weather, but has not been used in Iran for mapping.
He said aerial photography now carried out by large aircrafts costs much, they are economical in large projects, but cannot be used in small ones.
He told ISNA that the newly-built aircraft can carry out aerial photography in small projects and enjoys considerable flexibility.
It is produced with low cost and can be used in mountainous areas and bad weather.
He added the aircraft can prepare large-scale maps with the precision of 5-10 centimeters.
