Pakistan Navy inducts first squadron of indegenous drone aircraft

Islamabad, July 21, IRNA -- Pakistan Navy on Wednesday formally inducted the first squadron of its indegenous unmanned spy aircraft in its fleet, officials said.

The indigenously developed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) can be employed in support of Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) in the coastal areas.

Pakistan Naval Chief, Admiral Noman Bashir congratulated everyone involved in the program and expressed satisfaction on the induction of UAVs. He said the induction was a manifestation of the Navy’s commitment and resolve towards self-reliance and indigenization.

The induction of spy aircrfat came a day after a UAV of the Pakistan Navy crashed inside the premises of the National Oil Refinery in Korangi area.

A spokesman of the Pakistan Navy stated that the aircraft” was on a “routine mission” that crashed when it “hit an eagle” during mid flight.
