State Department not to blame for secret info leak - Crowley

RIA Novosti

07:32 02/12/2010 WASHINGTON, December 2 (RIA Novosti) - The recent leak of secret U.S. diplomatic documents did not take place within the State Department, spokesman Philip Crowley said.

Whistleblower website WikiLeaks has made public more than 250,000 confidential U.S. cables, which contain harsh comments about many world leaders.

"How do things happen? Well, I can say that the disclosure of these documents, which is a crime under our laws, did not occur within the Department of State. It did occur within our government," Crowley told foreign journalists in Washington.

"We regret it, and we have already taken steps and will continue to review the security of our vital information to do everything that we can to prevent this from happening again," he said.
